Dreamcatchers are Native American in origin, usually hung over cradles to protect the sleeping child. Bad dreams were said to get tangled in the web, and the good dreams would filter down through the small hole in the centre of the weave, and slide down the feathers onto the sleeper. The bad dreams were said to perish with the first light of dawn.

Many details of the original uses and features of the Native Americans' dreamcatchers are difficult to verify, but in modern times they are popular as a variety of accessories. The intricate weaves, the striking feathers - their appearance alone is instantly recognizable and almost as captivating as the legend behind it.

Here at Starlight Dreamer we have a soft spot for fully-beaded dreamcatchers, but this piece is our take on a more faithful version of a conventional dreamcatcher. The bright sunshine-colored cord is one single, continuous thread. The tan leather wrapping and gemstones provide a more natural feel. The pure white feathers complete the simple, clean look of the Matoaka dreamcatcher.
