In folklore, sirens were beautiful maidens who lured nearby sailors with their mesmerizing melodies, causing them to shipwreck on the rocks. Later mythology portrayed sirens as more mermaid-like. One of German poet Heine's most famous poems features a siren-esque character named Lorelei.
While the origin stories of mermaids appear to be quite dark, these fascinating mythological creatures are popular in many cultures around the world. In current times, no mermaid is more iconic than Disney's impetuous redheaded sea princess. Watching the show growing up, Ariel's seashell bikini free spirit is what comes to mind when I think of mermaids. Ariel, and Zoras from the Legend of Zelda. But that's another story.
The colors in the Lorelei dreamcatcher were inspired by the breathtaking beauty of the island of Curaçao.
