The Seremban Christmas Massacre

After running about doing some last minute Christmas shopping and ferrying ol' Vinz home, I realized that this just ain't my day.

I ground my rear rim against the curb and came home with a flat front tyre.

But my passenger got home with all limbs and organs intact, let me assure you.

Anyhoo, my fantasies of having owning a private airline aside,

I got home and found my house like this:

Yup, that's blood alright.

I got so freaked out when I picked up my puppy and my arms were covered in that seng smell... kinda like the smell of the chicken slaughter section of the Pasar Besar.

So like I was saying, I rang up Mom and Dad in the middle of their Christmas shopping and my frenzied conversation went something along the lines of:

"MOMMY DADDY WHERE ARE YOU?!?!"

"Huh? Shoppinglah."

"WELL YOU BETTER COME BACK QUICK THE HOUSE'S FULL OF BLOOD THE PLACE LOOKS LIKE RESIDENT FRIGGIN' EVIL!!!"

See? Spatters on the containers as well.

Alrighty! Other than that, and a pretty ruined Christmas Eve mass (ask me why! ;P) I guess here's wishing you guys *hugs and kisses* a very happy, non-macabre Christmas.

Weekend Bakings

Another two weeks, another two projects.

First up:

:: Death By Chocolate ::

This was a recipe I got off foodwishes and was generally quite excited about it as I haven't done anything SERIOUSLY chocolate for quite a bit (involving real chocolate and not just cocoa powder).

It was supposed to be a molten chocolate cake, with the gooey sauce oozing out when you slice through it with your fork.

However...

I decided to be smart and my itchy fingers added an extra 5 minutes to the baking time.

The result was...

Baked chocolate pudding.

Yes, I completely deserve everything that happens to me.

Either way, I won't be making this again. It's almost like, 75% chocolate for God's sake. The dark kind some more. Eugh. Jelakness.

:: Paper Cup Sponge Cake ::

Truth be told, I had no idea what this was when I made it, but the pictures on Hugbear's blog made it pretty irresistable for me to find out for myself.

The taste was described as reminding one of Ji Dan Gao, although I have absolutely no clue as to what the heck that is.

So I tried it out, and.. well see for yourself. :)

Just out of the oven.

Taken out of its paper cup...

..and mercilessly ripped in half to show you the fluffiness within.

There was no flavoring added, so the result was a light (not unpleasant) eggy flavor to go with the soft fluffiness. Not too sweet either. It made 6 paper cups, albeit overflowing as I was too lazy to line a seventh.

A pretty reliable recipe if you ask me, and even if you screw it up (a bit, towards the end) like me, it still turns out pretty decent. I lightly mixed in the melted butter when the instructions said, "mix THOROUGHLY." Sigh. I have this problem with instructions.

Anyhoo looks like I'll be having these for breakfast!!
Now shoo, Rotiman! I won't be needing your lower bakelets. *hidung denggi*

Baked Delights and Disasters

Okay!

After much procrastination and delay, I present to you...

CUPCAKEEESSS!!!!!!

I guess I can be best described as a very enthusiastic beginner,
so forgive me if they're not as pretty as they should be!!
(and yeah, I admit I'm the lousiest photographer in the world)

But anyhoo, moving on!!

First up!!

:: Buttercake Cupcakes ::

This was basically just a regular old buttercake recipe made into cupcakes. Topped with the most gorgeous-tasting Italian Meringue Buttercream, a smudge of royal icing and an M&M Crispy each!!

This had to be refrigerated and brought to room temp because of the cream, and was good for over a week.

God, I tell you, them jimmies took forever to put on!!

Altogether I made 88 cupcakes, started work at 10pm and finished around 7am. XD

Obviously we couldn't eat all of them, so we stuffed our neighbours and distributed them to my Mom's students over the week. :)

...

Oh, and on that day I made some petit fours (or at least ATTEMPTED to make) but I got fed up with working with the marshmallow fondant (which turned out great by the way) so I just gave up and arranged a single slice on top, which is basically just kerja malas. XD

I made about 40 royal icing roses (piping the damn things gave me bruises on my palm) and arranged them on top.

Unfortunately no pictures of them, as I was just too plain tired and lazy.

:: DEVIL'S FOOD CUPCAKE ::

After the buttercake cupcakes and petit fours episode I wanted to try out different cake recipes, and by the grace of God, I stumbled across Chockylit's Cupcake Bakeshop and tried out her recipe, which she had forewarned was slightly temperamental.

So imagine my joy when they turned out so well for me!!

Do not underestimate this cupcake. Although undecorated, this is a wonderful chocolate cupcake recipe, and turned out to have a surprisingly delightful brownie-like texture. Honestly I have no idea what the other forumers were complaining about it not having enough chocolatey taste.
Bah, I say!!

These kept in an airtight container for a week.

I am particularly proud of these because I was forewarned that it was slightly temperamental, but after sweettalking these babies (nono I'm not crazy I tell you!) look how pretty they turned out! And I managed to make them chibi-sized!!

I plan on pairing this with some sort of mint frosting for Christmas. =D

::LEMON CREAM CHEESE CUPCAKES::

Bored of the same old rich-tasting cupcake recipes, I decided to try Amanda Lee of Singapore's tweaked version of this recipe.

And God bless Amanda.

These turned out very light and fluffy despite the cream cheese, and the extra lemon zest was wonderfully refreshing.

I thought it would be nice to have some Lavender Buttercream to go with it, so I made little roses on top.

Beside a 50sen coin to emphasize its chibiness. =))

But then we were running late to a dinner, so Mom asked me to hurryup and so kerja malas took place. Again.

Haha.

It really broke my heart when I refrigerated these (because of the cream) and they became virtually inedible after that; all dry and rock-hard. ='(

Oh well. At least this newbie now knows that different storage requirements exist. =S
(I am not blonde!! I just didn't know okay!)

:: Strawberry Shortcake Minis ::

(yeah I'm aware these AREN'T cupcakes, but I decided to include them anyway because they tasted so friggin' good. :))

I felt like making these after Euchern sent me the CuppyCake Song (Strawberry Shortcake) and I wouldn't stop playing it on loop. :)

This is one of my earlier projects and involved a lot of cheating, like simplifying the recipe to just strawberry sponge cake instead of the real stuff, and using cream from the can. XD

Hey, they tasted awesome. *shrug* Who says cetak rompak aint no good? =D

Well first things first.
Many thanks to Sylvea and Sue Peng,
without whose help I would not have managed to work out this bleeding thing by myself. =)

Anyhoo, the opening of a new blog heralds new beginnings!
So for once I am going to sound bright and preppy!
(in this post la, at least =P)



Gosh I have had SUCH an AWESOME day!!!
I learned so many new things! I'm so happy! teehee!
And the first thing I learned was...

NEVER, EVER TAKE FU*KIN TRANSNASIONAL.

Okay, so much for my attempt at being preppy.
Preppy no more!

Here's the thing:

I decided to take SKS-KL on this eventful day because... well, their buses look prettier than Suasana Edaran. =P
But then today's bus was older-looking, and under the paint I could see the raised words

TRANSNASIONAL

BIG UH-OH!
(for those unaware, them RM50 pictures in The Star? Which almost always feature overturned and smashed-up buses? yeah, 9/10 of those buses were TRANSNASIONAL.)

But then I slapped myself and brushed it off as paranoia.
woopsie patootsie.

Halfway through the palm tree plantations the friggin bus broke down, and we had to stand and wait for the next bus in the bleeding hot sun with literally, ants in our pants. -.-

The next bus came and there weren't enough seats, so we got chased off.

And by then we were already freakin hot and sweaty and not at all being emotionally reasonable people so when the NEXT bus came, we didn't care about the driver's excuses about there being no air-con, that he was supposed to clean his grandma's arse half an hour ago... so we all boarded and in an irritated tone he agreed to take us (YAY!), but only one stop at Pudu Raya.

Just where the heck is THAT?!

well, yawn-yawn details aside, thanks to by excellent inborn sense of direction (and several panicked phone calls to Daddy) I managed to find my way to college! With Cheezy Wedges to boot!

well, the day wasn't ALL bad.

Aiya.

Anyways I guess the highlight of the day was when we were stranded at the highway, this KL lady just squidgied over and shaded me with her umbrella without a word.. and gave me tissue too! Aww.

It's not every day you run into nice strangers who dont want to sell your liver these days. =3
